*AC Goodwill*-Pace Career Academy, Allenstown

Pace Career Academy currently has a population of 35 students. Students come a with variety of issues from being credit short for graduation, lack of home support, anxiety issues, have been bullied, or are looking for a smaller learning environment. Students participate in internships from building playground equipment, being a paraprofessional with preschool students, working at the local library, and sustainable agriculture. Last year we had 10 students graduate, many were first generation graduates in their families. Goals: Support students’ development of self-confidence, personal responsibility, work ethic, and a life plan. Utilize both Common Core and cross-cutting competencies to provide students with a focused and practical pathway to graduation and their adult lives. Emphasize the use of authentic assessment in the evaluation of student’s attainment of competencies. Provide a rich and varied background in the uses of various technologies which will supply students with the foundation to apply and evolve their expertise with these tools. To work collaboratively with students, school personnel, parents and community members to create a highly personalized and inclusive education and career plan for each student. Goodwill AmeriCorps members increase student engagement through targeted mentoring of students that face significant challenges in school and life. Members use a mentoring model through: 1) Weekly check-ins with 15-25 students. 2) Gathering behavioral and school data. 3) Connecting students to needed interventions. 4) Connecting with families. Member support is provided through mentoring, academic support, service learning, additional interventions, and/or planning for or recruiting volunteers to support these activities.
