TASK VISTA

Toward a Sustainable Kentucky (TASK) is a VISTA initiative through Kentucky Campus Compact including more than 40 VISTA host sites, each of which will support one or more VISTAs. TASK seeks to build hope and momentum in our communities, helping citizens living in poverty to improve their lives, benefiting over 50,000 Kentucky students, families and individuals who are facing challenges in living the lives they envision. Over half of these VISTA members will be serving in the Appalachian region of Eastern Kentucky, including some areas that fall under President Obama’s Promise Zone Initiative. The poverty rate in Kentucky increased in the last census, people living in rural parts of the state continue to have difficulty finding jobs, and Kentucky continues to rank poorly in many of the major health factors. VISTA members serving with the TASK initiative will build the capacity of programs and nonprofits to fight poverty. Creating economic opportunities, raising awareness and resources for healthy futures, improving academic experiences and serving veteran and military families are some of the ways VISTAs can serve the Commonwealth through the TASK initiative. VISTAs have the opportunity to apply, contribute their skills and talents, and engage in this important effort to benefit Kentuckians today and tomorrow.
