15-16 IA College Aid, Marshalltown Community College
 
 
 
VISTA member will assist the community of Marshalltown break the cycle of poverty by increasing the college-going rate of its citizens through developing a College and Career Readiness Partnership Project and developing and coordinating a College Access Program that informs students about the college application process, college financing options and financial literacy which will increase the number of first-generation and low-income high school students who apply to college. VISTA will build capacity by enhancing community partnerships, leveraging existing resources, and developing program and evaluation guides for the College and Career Readiness Partnership Project and the College Access Program. VISTA will coordinate meetings and events, write project manuals and develop evaluation tools. VISTA will engage a minimum of five community organizations with capacity building services, produce ten additional project activities and ensure 200 new beneficiaries receive services, and increase the number of high school students completing college applications and FAFSA by 5%.

Member Duties : The AmeriCorps VISTA member will work with Iowa College Aid and Marshalltown Community College (MCC) to build a coordinated effort around college access and persistence. The member will work to leverage community resources and expand and/or strengthen partnerships to increase college attainment of citizens who have barriers, such as poverty or being first generation college students. The member will develop and implement programs, policies and services aimed at reducing barriers to degree attainment or low-income college students at MMC. The member will also support the Iowa College Application Campaign and College Financing Campaign. This position will be located in Marshalltown, Iowa.
