OSMRE/VISTA Program
 
 
 
Our VISTA Program is split into regional teams with specific geographic and topical focus: • Appalachian Coal Country Team (ACCT): Serving the Appalachian regions of eight states in the Eastern US, The ACCT places OSMRE/VISTAs with organizations that are working to mitigate the long-term impacts of pre-regulatory coal mining on the economy and the ecology of coal country. Projects include fostering environmental stewardship, promoting economic opportunities, and establishing community gardens. • Western Hardrock Watershed Team (WHWT): Serving the Hardrock mining regions of CO and NM, The WHWT places OSMRE/VISTAs with nonprofits that are working to mitigate the long term impacts of “boom & bust” mining on the economy and ecology of the mountain west. • United States Department of the Interior (DOI)/VISTA: Serving Nationally, The DOI/VISTA Team places VISTAs with resources like National Parks and Wildlife Refuges to create and expand anti-poverty efforts that leverage support for public lands and conservation as an economic driver. • Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCU)/VISTA: Serving Tribal Communities, the TCU/VISTA Team places VISTAs with Land-Grant Tribal Colleges and Universities to develop and expand economic opportunities with a special focus on the development of agribusiness and food sovereignty on tribal lands.
