SerVermont- The Alliance for Community Transformations

ACT is a community-based, grassroots coalition working to improve the health of our communities. ACT was built on the passionate belief that positive change can happen and that change is powered by the dreams and good ideas of our community members. Our mission is to empower, mobilize, and inspire communities to act in collaboration towards delaying first time substance use and preventing substance use among youth, increasing long-term health and wellness in our community. We serve youth and families in the “Southshire Region” of Bennington County, Vermont – the towns of Bennington, North Bennington, Shaftsbury, Arlington, Pownal, and Woodford, VT. Here at ACT, we aim to empower youth and those that care for youth to make informed decisions by providing clear and accurate information about substance use. We provide opportunities for parents and caregivers to learn more about the issues and give them tools to talk with the young people in their lives. We host family-friendly events, recognize positive role models of all ages, and work to improve physical and cultural environments in ways that will promote greater well-being and overall health in our community. ACT’s mission is to empower, mobilize, and inspire communities to act in collaboration towards delaying first time substance use and preventing substance abuse among youth, reducing its use across all ages, and promoting greater wellness and long-term health in southern Bennington County. To do this, ACT brings together community members and representatives from 12 sectors: Parents, Youth, Business/Community, Civic/Volunteer Groups, Healthcare Professionals, Law Enforcement, Media, Religious/Fraternal Organizations, Schools, Government, Youth-Serving Organizations, and Disability Representatives. Together, the coalition coordinates and guides substance prevention efforts in the region.
