AmeriCorps Clearwater assists the Clearwater Police Department with public safety efforts and provides excellent experience for individuals interested in a law enforcement career. AmeriCorps Clearwater members work hand-in-hand with community policing officers, school resource officers, crime prevention officers and staff of local community service agencies to help prevent/reduce crime in targeted areas. Our mission is to enhance public safety and act as a catalyst for crime prevention activities by fostering citizen responsibility and bringing communities together while providing unique educational opportunities to the AmeriCorps members.

Member Duties : AmeriCorps members save valuable police officer time by assisting police units with the execution of crime prevention and other details. The members also assist law enforcement personnel with major and minor incidents, such as terrorist attacks, large fires, plane crashes, prolonged investigations, car accidents, and disabled vehicles. AmeriCorps members assist the School Resource Officers by patrolling the school grounds at two local high schools and middle schools, which will lead to an increase of a safer school environment. AmeriCorps members support the Clearwater Police Department efforts to promote public safety, public health, disaster relief and preparedness related to homeland security. These efforts are implemented by assisting police personnel in education and training the public through community seminars.
