Corpus Christi Literacy Council Literacy Outreach Manager

We hold a variety of classes in basic literacy, ESL, computer literacy, conversation, and citizenship. Our volunteers hold one on one tutoring sessions all over the city and report monthly to the agency. We work with the public library, local colleges, workforce boards, and many others to encourage literacy development. We have a computer lab and several in house programs for reading and ESL, plus internet capabilities. We pretest all new learners, and post test after a period of instruction. We host continuing education sessions for our teachers and tutors, and share them with other agencies as well.

Member Duties : A VISTA member would improve our web presence and raise awareness in the community about literacy needs as well as resources. She/he would analyze student and tutor data with an eye for continuous improvement in services. She/he would help with fund raisers and grant writing so the agency’s capacity to serve would be increased. She/he would help organize the literacy coalition communications and planning process. He/she would organize training for new volunteers and appreciation for existing volunteers.
