14-15 Iowa Campus Compact - Mercy College of Health Sciences
 
 
 
IACC is a statewide coalition of colleges and universities committed to the public role of higher education. We provide services to our members that enhance their ability to engage students, staff, and faculty in their communities including professional development opportunities, technical assistance, networking, grants and other programming. The 2014-2015 IACC VISTA Program will work to build partnerships between our member campuses and their community partners in an effort to build capacity and alleviate poverty in relation to education and economic opportunity. The VISTA at Mercy College of Health Sciences will work with the Mercy College Student Success Center to build and design a financial literacy program to economically disadvantaged individuals to improve their financial knowledge.

Member Duties : Mercy College of Health Sciences (MCHS) in Des Moines, Iowa serves a nontraditional student population. Through partnership with the Student Success Center, and support from the Financial Aid Office and other departments, the VISTA will design and implement a comprehensive financial literacy program for Mercy College. The VISTA will identify topics to be addressed, research and work with appropriate experts to develop program materials, create and present seminars, identify outreach opportunities, develop ‘train the trainer’ materials, work with students and identified trainers, and coordinate and oversee the financial literacy program. The VISTA will work with faculty and staff to create and foster community partnerships and service-learning initiatives that enhance efforts to address community-defined needs for underserved populations in the metro area. The VISTA member will assist the faculty in implementation of service-learning components in their courses and programs.
