Southern Tier Opportunity Corps--2016 FULL-TIME

The AMERICORPS Southern Tier Opportunity Corps (STOC) places members in human service and workforce agencies in the south central region of western New York (Steuben, Chemung, Schuyler, Tompkins, and Yates counties). We are in a semi-rural/suburban area (definitely not New York City!) in the Finger Lakes/Southern Tier region that offers cultural amenities through local colleges, a less hectic/stressful environment, lower cost of living, and the Finger Lakes recreational offerings. We have sites throughout the region in cities such as such as Elmira, Corning, Bath, Ithaca, Penn Yan, Hornell, etc. We are a multi-site collaborative program that places members full-time primarily in human service agencies, providing critically-needed job and housing assistance to low-income individuals/families. Your service work would involve addressing economic opportunity issues, such as providing employment and housing assistance to economically disadvantaged individuals/families, including homeless individuals and veterans. AmeriCorps members’ work in the employment focus area could include remedial education, GED education, soft skills training around workplace behavior/job search skills/resume preparation, and any other job training/skill development services which would increase a client’s chances for employment. AmeriCorps members’ work in the housing focus area could include helping individuals, including the homeless, find the resources to support use of appropriate housing, as well as assist individuals in accessing housing.
