Aging Services MN - Workforce Development Coordinator - PSEI

There are few sectors in society where the work of a creative VISTA member could be more effectively applied, appreciated or essential than in helping communities reduce poverty and prepare to serve a “booming” population of older adults. Working through a nationally recognized non-profit senior living association dedicated to “leading change and changing lives,” this member will serve as a key creative partner and coordinator, advancing projects that recruit, retain and retrain a healthcare workforce in the often-overlooked aging services sector (skilled care centers, assisted living, senior housing-with-services, home care, adult day services, etc.). The aging services field holds great many opportunities unemployed and low wage workers to gain skills and move into living wage careers. By creating a series of marketing campaigns – from in-demand careers to key employment projects – this VISTA will focus on 1) increasing recruitment for aging services caregivers, 2) reducing the turnover of existing caregivers, and 3) helping to accelerate the redesign of our care delivery system through a cutting-edge Health Support Specialist (HSS) Registered Apprenticeship program. HSS provides an opportunity to help low wage employees gain skills to move into living wage careers. The net result of this work will be to reduce poverty while ensuring access to both needed employment and services in our communities. Are you interested in helping us connect the Twin Cities diverse populations to these great careers? This VISTA will be part of the PSEI VISTA Cohort and will participate in biweekly professional development, attend regional conferences and teambuilding activities during the term of service.
