College Health Corps, Minneapolis School Based Clinics (MNCC

The Minneapolis Health Department (MHD) is the public health department for the City of Minneapolis. The mission of the health department is “to promote health equity in Minneapolis and meet the unique needs of our urban population by providing leadership and fostering partnerships.” MHD has a long-term commitment to improving adolescent health through its School Based Clinics Program. MHD operates clinics in six Minneapolis public high schools and one alternative school for pregnant and parenting teens to provide early intervention services that are age-appropriate, convenient and barrier-free. Adolescence is a time of great physical, social, emotional, and developmental change and teens face a variety of health issues related to their physical and mental health. Teens also face a disproportionately higher risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and teens that become pregnant are less likely to graduate high school. Promoting adolescent health and wellness and reducing teen pregnancy and STIs are priorities for the School Based Clinics Program. The VISTA will focus on sustaining health education projects in collaboration with the School Based Clinics Program (SBC) staff members. The VISTA will plan, publicize, and co-facilitate the citywide SBC youth advisory board. Additionally, the VISTA will develop health education materials for two SBC peer education groups. The VISTA will also provide support for SBC staff to implement health promotion activities and events across all clinics. The goals are to engage youth in health promotion activities, improve access to health care services for underserved youth, establish ongoing health education outreach in the high school setting, and formalize partnerships with a variety of school and community stakeholders.**Interviews will occur on a rolling basis and preference will be given to candidates who apply before April 11th. Candidates must also email a resume and cover letter**
