PAVE New Haven - United Way of Greater New Haven - Boost!

PAVE New Haven, sponsored by the Agency on Aging of South Central Connecticut, is a collaboration among community organizations working together to foster the success of New Haven children and families. As an AmeriCorps VISTA project, PAVE New Haven is designed to improve educational outcomes by providing services to schools, low-income students, their families, and the community. In 2014-2015 the project will place 22 AmeriCorps VISTA members at host sites throughout the community to improve childhood literacy outcomes, increase college-readiness programs, and strengthen wrap-around services available to our city’s youth and their families. United Way of Greater New Haven (UWGNH) serves as one of the host sites for PAVE New Haven. VISTAs serving with the United Way serve a crucial role as Boost! Service Corps members in one of 16 public schools throughout New Haven. Boost!, a partnership between UWGNH, the city of New Haven, and New Haven Public Schools, is a unique initiative to coordinate wraparound services to support school children's overall development and enhance their ability to learn in the classroom. Boost! is designed to improve coordination and facilitate access to critical support services for youth and families; improve the quality of services, promote best practices; make most efficient use of existing and new resources in schools and in the community; and use data to leverage citywide policy and systems change -- all aimed at giving the City's youth the educational foundation they need to escape the cycle of poverty.
