Keep Austin Housed
 
 
 
Keep Austin Housed (KAH), a project of Front Steps, affects positive change in the lives of children, youth, and adults who are at-risk of experiencing, currently experiencing, or have formerly experienced homelessness. KAH places 31 full-time Members in 9 non-profits in Austin. Members serve an 11 month term (September through August), in which they work directly with individuals to overcome barriers to housing, employment, and personal stability. In addition to work at their sites, Members develop personally and professional through team building events, trainings, and service opportunities. Members must be 18 and have some college experience. Work and/or volunteer experience with the homeless populations and/or general service delivery is preferred. Prospective candidates are pre-screened with an AmeriCorps national application, as well as a project specific application.

Member Duties : Members will assist with the existing case management services by providing more intensive support and life skills training to address specific difficulties the client is having regarding his/her housing and personal stability goals, helping the client make significant, lasting changes in their situations. Activities will be determined by the needs and goals of each client. AmeriCorps members assess for client needs, develop action plans to meet goals, and provide support to work with clients toward achieving their goals. In addition, members educate the community-at-large on issues related to homelessness and access the support of community volunteers. Members will work to educate the community to educate about the issues of homelessness and their client population and recruit, train and coordinate volunteers who can support client, site, and project needs.
