Alaska Farmers' Market Quest Program Coordinator (in Palmer)
 
 
 
The Alaska Farmers’ Market-Quest Card Program (AFMQP) provides funding and assistance to farmers’ markets and farm stands to help them accept Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) electronic benefits transfer (EBT) cards. This VISTA position will serve as the AFMQP Coordinator and work to further develop the structure and sustainability of the program. This is a one-year position located with the State of Alaska Division of Agriculture in Palmer, Alaska. The AFMQP VISTA must be passionate about improving the local food system for the benefit of all Alaskans. This person must be capable and experienced at working independently. This person should be comfortable talking to groups and individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds, including farmers, SNAP clients, non-profit agencies and policy-makers. Good writing and communication skills are important. Any agricultural experience is a plus! Alaska offers many exciting adventures for outdoor enthusiasts (or those who just appreciate nature’s beauty!) Palmer is located in the heart of Alaska’s agricultural scene and is a short 40 minute drive from Anchorage, where you’ll find all the typical big city amenities. Benefits include: Monthly living allowance ($1,222), relocation costs ($0.34/mile up to $1000) and settling in allowance ($550), health benefits, child care assistance, training, and an Education Award ($5,730).

Member Duties : ••Continue to build, manage and improve the Alaska Farmers’ Market-Quest Card Program. •Conduct outreach to farmers’ markets and farmer stands to expand participation. •Develop and provide training and materials for all farmers’ markets and farm stands participating in the program. •Increase marketing initiatives through various traditional and social media sources to raise awareness of the program and increase reach to low income Alaskans. •Identify funding sources and write grants to continue the AFMQP incentive program. •Develop systems for markets to track activities and program data for end of market season evaluation report.
