UCA - Battered Persons' Advocacy Healthy Families Advocate
 
 
 
United Communities AmeriCorps (UCA) engages AmeriCorps members in meaningful service designed to meet critical community needs in Coos, Douglas, Jackson and Josephine counties in Southern Oregon. UCA partners with community-based organizations, government agencies and schools to address local community needs in the areas of education, healthy futures and economic opportunity. UCA members serve positions are 1,700 hours in length, with members earning an education award of $5,730. Members typically serve in a full-time capacity for 11 months. Interviews for all of our open positions will be conducted on a rolling basis as qualified candidates are identified, and selection may be made prior to the application deadline. Early application is strongly encouraged. Serving in Roseburg, OR, the member will help support parents and their children by providing crisis intervention, peer support services (e.g. goal setting, life skills building, and housing, employment, and education resources), and advocacy using a trauma-informed approach. The AmeriCorps member will assist with the shelter assessment and intake process for families and will work closely with the Child & Family Advocate to coordinate support groups for children and families staying at the shelter. Preferred qualifications include: 1) Experience working with survivors of family violence, sexual assault and/or stalking; 2) Experience working with children and teens; 3) Strong writing and presentation skills; 4) Strong computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; and 5) Proven ability to work independently.

Member Duties : Duties include: 1) Provide services to children and families, including, but not limited to, housing and employment referrals for parents, ongoing emotional support, assistance with coordinating school enrollment & transportation for children & teens, complete “Child’s Plan for Success” with children & families, connect children & teens to after-school/summer enrichment activities; organize and lead regular on-site activities (e.g. cooking, games, nature walks) with mothers & children staying in the shelter, clean and organize the house for families (including the children’s playroom) to promote a healthy, safe environment, and sort donations for children such as clothing, toys, and books; 2) Answer the crisis line; complete assessments and shelter intakes; 3) Assist Child & Family Advocate with the facilitation of an through A Window Between Worlds (AWBW) art-centered intervention support group/workshop for residents staying at the shelter; and 4) participate in team decision making.
