FIT VISTA CareGivers Volunteer Coordinator

The CareGivers mission is to help the frail, elderly, and disabled maintain their independence and dignity through the spirit of volunteerism. The CareGivers assuredly serves over 800 neighbors in need thanks to the kindness and generosity of over 500 volunteers whose outreach helps our homebound elderly client base avoid premature institutionalization. Few have the support of a social network. Many have outlived their spouse and longtime friends and need assistance. We recruit, screen, train and coordinate volunteers to offer food, presence and transportation assistance to our clients living in Greater Nashua and Greater Manchester, all provided free of charge. In operation since 1984 this organization’s impact has expanded exponentially during the last decade. In 2012 volunteers provided over 5,600 rides to and from essential medical appointments of clients no longer able to drive on their own and/or afford taxi service. Additionally, volunteers provided clients transportation for other rides, including trips to the pharmacy. They also made regular friendly visits and reassuring phone calls in addition to providing birthday greetings and holiday gifts. The Caring Cupboard food delivery program delivered 114,150 pounds of food to 328 households in 2012.

Member Duties : This VISTA member would work standard business hours, though he/she may occasionally need to represent The CareGivers at an evening meeting or weekend event. The position involves developing and implementing volunteer recruitment strategies involving the development and dissemination of information to traditional media as well as social media. This position would also run volunteer-training sessions as well as working individually with volunteers.
