UCF CPNM Homeless Education - UCF

The UCF Center for Public and Nonprofit Management (CPNM) aspires to strengthen communities by helping small and midsize public and nonprofit organizations with training, technical assistance, and evaluation. The UCF CPNM has successfully supported 10 major capacity building projects positively impacting over 200 nonprofit organizations in Central Florida. The UCF CPNM is entering Year Three of its project to effectively address the education needs of families in transition in Central Florida. This year, the project is expanding to assist in the capacity building of the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities at the University of Central Florida. The office works to provide students on and off-campus resources associated with financial aid, academic support, employment, and housing accommodations. As the need continues to grow, the office requires additional capacity to identify these students, develop community relationships and enhance resources in order to meet these need. VISTAs have the opportunity to serve the homeless children population by incorporating strategies to foster resilient communities. Intensive orientation and ongoing training will prepare the VISTAs to become leaders in five critical areas of capacity building: organizational, program, and leadership development, collaboration and community engagement, and evaluation of effectiveness. VISTAs provide focused, in-depth technical assistance in the internal management systems of strategic planning, financial management, and policies and procedures, and customized technical assistance. Organizations receiving technical assistance will demonstrate an enhanced ability to provide social services, increased effectiveness, sustainability, and creation of collaborations to ensure homeless children and youths have access to the education and additional services and opportunities in order to meet the same challenging academic achievement standards of all students in Florida.
