Hudson P.R.O.M.I.S.E Corps

The Mental Health Association of Columbia-Greene Counties, Inc.(MHACGC) in collaboration with the Greater Hudson Promise Neighborhood(GHPN) and Hudson City School District (HCSD) proposes to create the Hudson PROMISE Corps. Hudson City School District (HCSD) is located in the city of Hudson, in Columbia County, New York. Hudson is a small, rural city of roughly 2 square miles with approximately 15,300 residents. The four schools forming HCSD serve nearly 1,900 students. The impact of the AmeriCorps investment in the Hudson community is expansive. The impact on the students/school will be to increase student engagement in grades 3-6. In addition, mentoring programs will help students learn to develop positive relationships with caring adults. The community will be strengthened by the CNCS commitment to helping the Greater Hudson Promise Neighborhood reach its goals of improving academic achievement and parental engagement, promote physical, emotional and social well-being, establish safe, healthy environments, create leaders of all ages, and develop universally accessible, culturally diverse opportunities for all the children of the Hudson City School District. An AmeriCorps program in the Greater Hudson communities can help create a community where children expect to go to college and everyone feels responsible for making Hudson a great place to live.
