Superstorm Sandy Recovery

World Cares Center supports the long term recovery of the five boroughs of New York City affected directly and indirectly by Superstorm Sandy, with a focus on lower income communities who suffer limited access to resources. WCC's headquarters in Manhattan currently supports two Volunteer Coordination and Resiliency Centers (VCRC’s) in the Rockaways, Queens and Staten Island. WCC also continues to support the Long Term Recovery Committees and NYC-VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster). Altogether these form a comprehensive network to engage, empower and support those who often fall through the cracks when communities are stressed. World Cares Center is currently involved in capacity-building efforts to strengthen our model and ensure that all New York City residents receive appropriate and practical training, which will enable them to serve their communities as dependable and ready responders. To that end, World Cares Center is requesting AmeriCorps VISTA members to aid in capacity building in three primary areas: 1. Field Management; 2. Outreach; 3. Development; 4. Long Term Recovery Committee (LTRC) ; and 5. Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD)
