Camphill Village USA, Inc

The mission of Camphill is to uphold the dignity of every human being, particularly where the individual is challenged by developmental disabilities. It is a life sharing community where volunteers live and work together with adults with developmental disabilities. Now, for more than 50 years, Camphill Village is a place where the value of community and the power of the human spirit are recognized and nurtured. Camphill is a unique residential community of 240 people in Copake, New York where dedicated volunteers from around the world and adults with developmental disabilities share a life together. Volunteers have a personal commitment to build community life and fully share their lives with people with developmental disabilities. They do not receive a salary as such, instead a community budget is established that meets everyone's basic needs. Camphill Village offers dignified, challenging work and training opportunities. Volunteers support adults with developmental disabilities in fine craft workshops, working side by side, making items of value and beauty. Crafts include candle making, woodworking, stained glass, book binding and weaving. The Village offers a range of land work: estate work, dairy farm, extensive vegetable garden, seed garden and a Healing Plant garden. Volunteers also work in the houses, the Village bakery, cafe, coffee shop, and co-op. Cultural, educational and artistic activities both within and outside of Camphill Village, including lectures, plays, concerts, a bell choir, singing groups, and painting are enjoyed by everyone. We offer orientation and training courses to all new volunteers and a 4.5 year Seminar in Social Therapy.
