The IRC in Oakland:AmeriCorps Economic Empowerment Associate
 
 
 
This year, the IRC in Oakland will be resettling international refugees from Eritrea, Bhutan, Burma, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Sri Lanka, Syria and Uganda. Employment is an essential element in helping refugees become economically self-sufficient. The AmeriCorps Associate will work in the Early Employment Department in tandem with the Employment Specialists to support all aspects of the program while providing direct services to newly arrived refugees and asylees.

Member Duties : Provide pre-employment and job readiness training.Conduct individual employment orientations to provide an overview of the U.S. jobs market.-Develop and cultivate long term relationships with area employers.Support Employment Specialist in maintaining current partnerships.Coordinate employment opportunities and job-ready clients by assisting them through the hiring process.Monitor job performance, wage level, and employer/employee satisfaction.Conduct “exit interviews” with clients graduating from the Early Employment program.-Provide referrals as needed for extended services.-Maintain files and database records to track client progress.-Ensure timely and accurate compliance with all reporting requirements.Recruit, train and supervise 1-3 volunteers/interns to conduct individual mentoring and classroom-based vocational training courses.Participate in weekly Resettlement Team Meetings.Create and conduct a project which will be used to build capacity in the Early Employment Program.
