SCOPE OF WORK This year, the IRC in Oakland will be resettling international refugees from Eritrea, Bhutan, Burma, Afghanistan, Iraq, Sri Lanka, and Mongolia. Employment is an essential element in helping refugees become economically self-sufficient. This internship will be working on high level logistics and all aspects of assisting newly arrived resfugees attain employment. The position will report to and work in close tandem with the IRC Employment Specialist.

Member Duties : 1. Manage Financial Literacy Program and Financial Literacy Classes. 2. Provide pre-employment and job readiness training. Work directly with clients to conduct intakes and assessments, develop employment plans and create resumes. Lead career counseling sessions that convey key messages about the importance of employment in becoming self-sufficient. 3. Develop and cultivate long term relationships with area employers in order to identify employment opportunities for clients. 4. Determine specific employment opportunities appropriate to clients and assist clients in accessing these opportunities by guiding them through the hiring process. 5. Monitor job performance, wage level, and employer/employee satisfaction. 6. Assist clients and employers as necessary with post placement issues and continuing employment needs. 7. Maintain files and database records to track client progress through all economic development services. Ensure timely and accurate reporting requirements.
