*Goodwill*-Robert Frost Charter School-North Conway, NH

Goodwill places AmeriCorps members in schools and nonprofits to increase student engagement through targeted mentoring of students that face significant challenges and need additional interventions to succeed in school and life. Members utilize the Check and Connect mentoring model supporting students through: 1) Weekly one-on-one check-ins with 15-25 students. 2) Weekly Monitoring Forms, gathering behavioral and school data. 3) Connecting students to needed interventions. 4) Connecting with families. Member support is provided through mentoring, academic support, service learning, additional interventions, and/or planning for or recruiting volunteers to support these activities. Check and Connect is a research proven model created by the University of Minnesota, proven to increase academic engagement, decrease absences and tardiness, and improve persistence in students who are disengaged or at risk of dropout. Additional information can be found at http://checkandconnect.umn.edu/ The Robert Frost Public Charter School is a tuition-free public school that opened in the fall of 2012. RFCS provides students with a nurturing environment where each child is supported as a unique individual. Multi-age classrooms encourage older students to grow as role models and enable younger students to learn from their older peers in a way that promotes social and emotional growth as well as academic. The mission of the school is to create life-long learners by providing an intellectually rich and challenging experience to develop 21st Century Skills through a blending of Montessori tradition and Project-Based Learning. Dedicated educators meet students where they are academically, socially and emotionally to foster students’ individuality and critical thinking skills, preparing them for scholastic, civic and personal success in the 21st Century.
