2015/16 STEM VISTA - UMD Baltimore County Extension 4H

The University of Maryland Baltimore County Extension 4-H OST STEM VISTA project will focus on increasing access to high quality STEM learning during out-of-school-time for youth in the Baltimore County area who have the least access. The VISTA will accomplish this by coordinating STEM training, building STEM partnerships, and identifying resources for STEM program sustainability. The VISTA will work with 4-H, a national youth development organization and provider of quality STEM programs that has partnered with the Maryland Out of School Time Network. The STEM VISTA at Baltimore County 4-H will establish a cadre of STEM professionals and teachers who provide technical expertise to our 4-H after school and summer programs. This position is sponsored by the Maryland Out of School Time (MOST) Network’s VISTA Program. The Maryland Out of School Time (MOST) Network, a project of Baltimore's Safe & Sound Campaign, is a statewide initiative to increase the quantity and quality of out of school time (OST) opportunities for youth. MOST VISTAs are placed throughout the state to focus on the following areas: 1) Increasing access to and participation in programs that provide unique STEM learning opportunities; 2) Eliminating youth hunger and improving health in children and families by increasing access to meals, quality nutrition education, and physical activity; 3) Expanding opportunities for youth who have the least access to out of school time programs, including low income and minority youth, youth with disabilities, and older youth. MOST VISTA members create a community that is passionate about youth development and participate in extensive training and professional development throughout their service year.
