Sustainability and Active Transportation Coordinator
 
 
 
The Americorps member will serve the Office of Environmental Policy and Sustainability and the Sustainable Tacoma Commission to implement the City's Climate Action Plan strategies of reducing fuel and energy use and engaging in community outreach and education. The member will increase environmental awareness and positive behavior change through developing outreach events and campaigns. Outreach opportunities include the Sustainability Expo, Bike Month, presentations to schools, Neighborhood Councils, Business Districts, City Council Environment Committee and workshops at the Envirohouse and libraries. The member will research and network with other regional and local organizations to learn best practices and collaborate on joint projects with the Pierce County Sustainability Education Network, City of Tacoma Green Team and the Tacoma Bicycle and Pedestrian Action Committee. The member will track progress and develop annual reports on specific sustainability and environmental measures.

Member Duties : Serve the Sustainable Tacoma Commission and Bicycle and Pedestrian Action Committee. Research policies, programs, and activities in order to complete Climate Action Plan strategies. 1) Outreach - Lead Planning Committee for both South Sound Sustainablity Expo and Bike Month activities. Serve collaboratively with other organizations and stakeholders on joint sustainability outreach events and opportunities. Develop presentations and deliver to schools, businesses, neighborhood councils, and non-profits. Maintain Office’s website and social media. Use existing and develop new tracking and reporting tools and methods, including quarterly success stories, annual sustainability accomplishments and lead the annual bike and pedestrian count. 2) Reduce resource consumption - Monitor and track fuel, energy and paper use data for 2000 employees. Develop policies, programs and education tools to facilitate reduction. 3) Recruit and manage volunteers and interns for events and activities.
