WSC, Phinney Neighborhood Association, Volunteer Coordinator

The Phinney Neighborhood Association (PNA) builds community by providing and promoting programs, services and activities aimed at connecting neighbors and fostering civic involvement in our diverse community. The PNA Village is an aging-in-place program which helps people stay in their communities and neighborhoods, and keep active and engaged as they age. The PNA Village, a program of the Phinney Neighborhood Association (PNA) located in northwest Seattle, launched in January 2012, coordinates access to affordable services provided by volunteers including transportation, home repairs, social and educational activities. In 2015-16, we will deliver a Fall Prevention training program for the members of the PNA Village with the added feature of offering a home safety check to be conducted by a new volunteer position, Home Safety Volunteer (HSV). The HSV will do a follow-up home visit with the attendees of the Fall Prevention training using a Home Safety checklist in conjunction with “A Matter of Balance.” The training for the HSV is being developed in the Spring 2015 by Seattle Pacific University Senior Nursing Students. The PNA Village Volunteer Coordinator plays an integral role by recruiting, training, managing, recognizing and retaining the volunteers who make the Village possible. The PNA Village engages a variety of community members as volunteers who contribute their time and talent to provide services to our members. As the Fall Prevention Lead, member is responsible for research, attending and completing Matter of Balance (MOB) training, delivery of classes to members, and assessing efficacy of MOB classes. Member will also be responsible for implementing the new volunteer position, Home Safety Volunteer (HSV).
