San Juan Watershed Group - Year 3

The San Juan Watershed Group works to improve river health through improvement of water quality and riparian habitat, and seeks to combat rural poverty through economic opportunity, education, and job creation through environmental stewardship. The Planning and Outreach Coordinator will identify willing property owners who want to improve agricultural operations to improve crop yield, water usage efficiency and reduced pollutant loading to rivers through the implementation of best management practices. The Coordinator will also provide educational outreach to local students in the area and within the Navajo Indian Reservation. The SJWG works cooperatively with local, state, tribal and federal government agencies, environmental and conservation NGOs and private businesses to identify solutions to impaired river health. The local rivers are used intensively as irrigation, industrial and public drinking water sources. The Planning and Outreach Coordinator has a unique opportunity to build partnerships with representatives from two states and three Native American tribes to improve and protect this vital resource.
