NJ Bonner VISTA Fellows - Trenton Capacity Building

The NJ Bonner VISTA Fellows Program is an initiative that addresses issues related to poverty such as economic development, asset-based community development, hunger, nutrition, health and literacy throughout New Jersey. The program is a collaboration between The College of New Jersey and the Bonner Foundation. The NJ Bonner VISTA Fellows Program comprises a cohort of 20 members who serve full-time to enhance volunteerism, develop economic opportunities, and address poverty issues throughout New Jersey. Founded in 2004, the Bonner Center for Civic and Community Engagement at TCNJ helps the college maintain its mission to sustain and advance the communities in which they live. It does so by creating teaching and learning opportunities that simultaneously build the capacity of TCNJ students in addition to local non-profits and neighborhoods. In the end students become more knowledgeable, skilled and civic minded, while community partners gain additional resources to effectuate positive change. To learn more about the Bonner Center at TCNJ, go to http://bonner.pages.tcnj.edu. The Corella and Bertram F. Bonner Foundation support anti-poverty programs in the area of hunger and education. Through sustained partnerships with colleges and congregations, the Bonner Foundation seeks to improve the lives of individuals and communities by helping meet the basic needs of nutrition and educational opportunity. Beginning at Berea College in the Fall of 1990, the Foundation began supporting a four-year, service-based college scholarship program. The Bonner Scholar and Bonner Leader Programs have expanded to more than 75 colleges and universities across the country, providing "access to education, and an opportunity to serve" to more than 3,200 students annually. There are three VISTA positions available for the Trenton area Capacity Building VISTA description.
