PathWays PA/American Red Cross 1

The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. The VISTA worker will work directly with volunteers, clients and donors to plan and implement Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) programs. Specifically, this employee coordinates activities and implements programming in the Southeastern Pennsylvania region including Philadelphia, Bucks, Delaware, Montgomery and Chester Counties. This includes SAF and limited support to Emergency Services and Educational Services. The American Red Cross of Southeastern PA is located at 2221 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103 and is close to all public transportation. Southeastern Pennsylvania is home to the highest concentration of veterans in the state and is also home of a large community military population. Because these groups are not active duty military and there are no close installations, these groups often experience the greatest financial-related needs. VISTA members work to develop programming and partnerships to best address critical issues in these communities such as employment, education and poverty. VISTA support has enabled us to begin addressing these issues on a regional scale and is helping by contributing to sustainable program development. The Service to the Armed Forces program works to support local military units as well as VA hospitals and veteran facilities through volunteer and material support and also through developing partnerships and consultation. We maintain a free 24/7 resource and referral hotline staffed by employees which is maintained by VISTA members. VISTA members spend time in the field meeting with partners and clients and in the office working to research and create programming and work closely with the VISTA supervisor to collaborate on projects.
