City of Lancaster Volunteer Program - Lancaster, CA

The City of Lancaster is looking for a VISTA member to help with the development of a new community-wide volunteer program. The primary focus will be in developing a comprehensive program that will help coordinate, recruit, and train individuals wishing to serve, and connect them with non-profit organizations that need assistance. This program will help organizations generate new volunteers and identify other resources that can be used to help provide the services and programs that our community needs. We will primarily be working with organizations that provide programs and services which reduce poverty, promote health and wellness, increase educational opportunities, increase employment opportunities, and provide assistance to our large veteran community. Tasks will also include the development of a volunteer training manual for organizations, developing a volunteer handbook for prospective volunteers, creating a training program for volunteer coordinators and identifying best practices used by organizations throughout the U.S. We will also be creating a marketing strategy that utilizes social media and other online resources to recruit new volunteers. Lancaster is located in Southern California just an hour north of Los Angeles. Free or nearly free housing located near Downtown Lancaster will be available to the VISTA selected. The VISTA would have the opportunity to share a 4 bedroom home with 3 other VISTAs that are currently working on this program.
