Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua Development VISTA
Since 1971, the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua (the Club) has been at the forefront of youth development, working with young people from disadvantaged economic, social, and family circumstances. The Club actively seeks to enrich the lives of youth whom other youth agencies have had difficulty in reaching or do not serve. We are dedicated to ensuring that our community's disadvantaged youngsters have greater access to quality programs and services that will enhance their lives and shape their futures. A youth development strategy underlies all our programs and fosters a sense of belonging, competence, usefulness and influence that builds self-confidence and self-esteem. Our strategy is to make the Club a place where youth want to be, offering them a wide range of activities from which they can choose to participate. Professional staff bond and develop relationships with the youth, guiding them into programs that will develop their potential and make the most of their assets. We serve more than 3,200 youth ages 5-18, 40% of whom are minorities and 74% of whom live in households categorized as "low" income. Many of these children live in single parent homes in dangerous neighborhoods and are at risk of using drugs and alcohol, joining gangs, failing in school, and being victims of neglect or abuse. For these kids, the Club is a safe haven, open from after school until 9:00 pm and all day in the summer. We provide transportation from school to the Club and safely home, nutritious meals, and individual services to support our youth. Membership is $35/year and no child is turned away for inability to pay. The Club provides diverse programs that attract and retain children with a variety of interests and needs. We use the following five Core Program Areas to provide an overall framework for programming in our Club: Character & Leadership Development, Educational & Career Development, Health & Life Skills, The Arts, and Sports, Fitness & Recreation.

Member Duties : The addition of a VISTA Member will help us by building a stronger fundraising infrastructure to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward individual, corporate, foundation and government supporters. In order to ensure on-going funding for mission-critical programs and services being provided to our community’s low-income youth, a focused Resource Development Plan will be developed. The plan will include strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward individual, corporate and foundation donors and prospects. The plan will include emphasis on social media and other messaging to various audiences.
