United Way of SECT/New London County Food Policy Council

AmeriCorps VISTAs will serve with the United Way of Southeastern Connecticut to advance the mission and programs of the New London County Food Policy Council. The Food Policy Council was established in 2011 to transform the region’s food system to improve diet-related health outcomes through policy, program innovation, and support. The Council’s vision is to ensure that affordable and nutritious food is accessible to all county residents. The Council is developing the county’s first Food Action Plan, the strategic plan for implementing three regional policy goals: (1) reduce food insecurity, (2) improve and prevent diet-related health outcomes, and (3) support local, environmentally sustainable, and socially responsible agriculture. Council members include representatives of the region’s leading organizations in health, social services, agriculture, and academia.
