AZ Refugee Resettlement Program Refugee Focus ELT
 
 
 
The Arizona Refugee Resettlement Program is partnering with Refugee Focus to strengthen the links between English language training and mainstream educational and supportive services that will lead to refugees more quickly obtaining employment and achieving self-sufficiency. The assignment is located in Phoenix Arizona and will be active from February 2015 through February 2016. The candidate will be selected by December 30, 2014 and will attend the four-day AmeriCorps Pre-Service Orientation in February 2015.

Member Duties : Nearly 3,000 refugees resettle in Arizona each year. This assignment will provide assistance to refugees as they learn the English language. Over the course of the assignment year, the VISTA member will develop capacity building programs that will support refugees as they learn to speak English. Through group activities and orientations, the project will establish relationships with community partners to increase volunteer participation to mentor and tutor refugees so they may more quickly learn English and obtain employment. The member will establish relationships with community partners, potential partners and ethnic groups to increase volunteer participation in mentoring and other group activities. The member will also design programs to be implemented at the apartment complexes that will facilitate refugee education and self-sufficiency.
