First 5 Orange County Family Support Network

Family Support Network (FSN) provides services and resources that help children with special needs reach their full potential. Founded in 1985 by a group of concerned parents, FSN has been serving the special needs community in Orange County by bringing together parents and professionals all dedicated to helping children achieve their dreams. Because FSN is such a diverse organization, serving over 7,000 individuals a year in its twelve programs, the member would be provided exposure to both the rewards and challenges faced by nonprofit agencies. FSN’s programs serve “at risk” children and their caregivers. They are all collaborative efforts involving many of the major agencies serving children in Orange County. Many of FSN’s programs are considered innovative and unique filling community gaps in service. FSN employees function as a team and the VISTA member will be serving in a fulfilling, challenging, professional, and warm environment. FSN functions as a “one stop shop” for families who have children with special needs allowing them to access a wide variety of services under one roof.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will work with the Board of Directors to plan and execute a fundraising strategy. FSN is dependent on grant and foundation funding. To sustain its efforts in the future, the Board realizes more effort needs to be devoted to fundraising activities, including events, soliciting individual contributions, and pursuing endowment opportunities. The VISTA member will work with the FSN Board of Directors to develop a Fundraising Strategy, set concrete fundraising goals, and implement efforts to bring in unrestricted dollars. Under the supervision of FSN's Executive Director, this individual will gain an understanding of and research funding opportunities for Orange County nonprofits.
