Hmong American Partnership (HAP) is a social service and community development organization whose mission is: to empower the community to embrace the strengths of our cultures while achieving our potential. HAP is seeking a VISTA to help us build career pathways into education and employment opportunities for the 3000 clients we serve each year in education and employment services. The position requires a full-time service commitment for one-year, starting with VISTA training July 30- August 2, 2013. HAP is looking for a high-performing, innovative individual who is interested in helping our organization build ability to deliver quality, employment and education services. We are looking for a highly motivated, adaptable, self-starter who enjoys working on multiple projects and tasks while working in a fast-paced environment. Our leadership team is looking for a VISTA member who has the desire to develop systems that lead to social change. Previous work experience in economic and employment development projects is preferred. Our top candidate is able to demonstrate his/her ability to be outcome-focused; including understanding the importance of data and research and how to message this information to a diverse audience.

Member Duties : • Identify prospective employer-partners to increase job placement rates • Develop new sector-based employer-partner relationships to support HAP’s mission • Conduct research to expand HAP’s employment and education services into career pathways, e.g. GED, Family Literacy, Career Mentorship • Identify opportunities for sector-based volunteer work for New Americans • Develop volunteer systems to help increase participants’ ability to be employable • Design volunteer work experience program for employment and education clients • Identify, recruit, and train employment-specific volunteers to provide individualized one-to-one career counseling, mentoring, and job search assistance to clients • Assist in the design and development of a career-employment assessment for growth sector-job industries (e.g. construction, green jobs, health services) • Assist in the development of HAP’s Placement Agency; work with employers to craft new positions and opportunities for clients
