CTCC: Goodwin College

CT Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA program was developed in 2008 to address the local needs of low-income communities and to be a mechanism for community change. Through campus based placements, our AmeriCorps VISTA members build, support, and deepen partnerships between campuses and local organizations in two areas: education and economic opportunity. These partnerships will strengthen the capacity of local organizations to alleviate poverty in low-income communities by leveraging the resources of higher education institutions. The AmeriCorps VISTA Member serving with Goodwin College will support MOVE (Men of Vision in Education) and WISE (Women Investing in Securing an Education), which attract and retain low-income, first-generation college men and women who are minorities or who have other social and/or economic barriers to education. The goal for MOVE and WISE enrollees is for each to earn an associate degree within three years and enroll in a bachelor degree program. Program elements include an academic boot camp, academic advising, financial assistance, personal counseling, mentoring, and career planning.
