CTCC: Eastern Connecticut State University

CT Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA program was developed in 2008 to address the local needs of low-income communities and to be a mechanism for community change. Through campus based placements, our AmeriCorps VISTA members build, support, and deepen partnerships between campuses and local organizations in two areas: education and economic opportunity. These partnerships will strengthen the capacity of local organizations to alleviate poverty in low-income communities by leveraging the resources of higher education institutions. The Eastern CT State University VISTA member will promote student engagement, maintain the Center for Community Engagement website, and conduct public relations activities. The VISTA receives support and supervision from the Director of the Center for Community Engagement.

Member Duties : The AmeriCorps VISTA member is a part of the Center for Community Engagement at Eastern Connecticut State University. The VISTA will work closely with community partners, faculty and students to address critical community concerns through development of mutually beneficial community service programs for student volunteers. Activities include oversight of volunteers in weekly programs with local schools, care facilities, and social service agencies. The member will also assist in coordinating large scale community events including the Day of Giving, Town Pride, Town Wide and Interschool Field Day, as well as support academic service learning classes.
