CLUES Youth in Action (YA!) -- St. Paul VISTA Program

CLUES' mission is to enhance the quality of life of the Latino community in Minnesota. CLUES Youth in Action (YA!) Program supports the organization's overall mission by striving to empower Latino youth as future leaders in their communities by guiding them to achieve their academic goals, educational aspirations, and professional potential and equipping them with a network of peers, coaches, and parents in support of their educational journey and career path. Designed as a college and career preparation and leadership program for Latino youth in 9th-12th grades in St. Paul, CLUES Youth in Action (YA!) Program features adult coaches as individual role models, monthly Coaching Institutes, community service-learning opportunities and parent engagement to improve the quality and depth of learning opportunities available to Latino youth in St Paul. Working closely with CLUES Staff, the St Paul VISTA will increase CLUES capacity to serve the YA! Program’s Latino youth by creating a formal civic engagement curriculum and developing opportunities to bring the classroom learning to life in the form of service-learning, volunteer and internship opportunities for students. **This VISTA position is sponsored by the Saint Paul VISTA Program. Hosted in Mayor Chris Coleman's Office, the Saint Paul VISTA Program is comprised of a city-wide cohort of individuals -- placed at community organizations and schools -- dedicated to shaping the educational landscape for youth and families in Saint Paul.**

Member Duties : CLUES St. Paul VISTA will develop a civic engagement component that will become a staple of the YA! Program. With support, the VISTA will create a foundational curriculum focused on topics actively guided by student interest. To complement the students’ civic engagement learning, the VISTA Member will also explore and establish relationships with organizations offering volunteer and internship opportunities for students to engage in throughout the academic year as well as in the summer. The VISTA will coordinate individual student volunteer and internship experiences with these partnering organizations while also planning a culminating group project allowing the youth to activate their learning through hands-on application.
