Education Assistant - PWSSC

Cordova, Alaska: HEADWATERS TO OCEANS EDUCATION PROGRAM The Prince William Sound Science Center (PWSSC) mission is to promote the goal of maintaining long-term, self-regulating biodiversity, productivity and sustainable use of renewable resources of the bioregion. We educate and inform the youth and general public about the critical inter-dependence of ecosystem science and the regional economies of Alaska. Our efforts focus on gathering data, synthesizing across disciplines and developing information and education applications based on science. For over 20 years, our education department has been translating science into theme-based programming both within the school system and through after-school and summer programs. We work with students locally and regionally, bringing science education to rural communities around Alaska. We intend for this information to improve management of resources to promote long-term ecosystem health during this time of rapid change in water cycles, temperature, and marine and terrestrial habitats. PWSSC believes strong connections between science, self, society and surroundings are the key to a healthy bioregion. Our education and outreach programs stimulate these emotional, physical and intellectual connections.
