Virginia Tech- Smart Beginnings
 
 
 
The VT Engage VISTA Network places VISTA members with community organizations. Each position is unique, created to meet the needs of our community partners and address issues of poverty in the New River Valley in Virginia. Through our Network we build collaborative partnerships with the community with the human and intellectual resources on Virginia Tech. Smart Beginnings NRV is one of VT Engage's partner organizations. It is a coalition of business, nonprofit and governmental leaders in the NRV working for wise public investments in the infrastructure for early childhood development. The VISTA member will work to support Smart Beginnings through the creation of a Volunteer Reading Mentor program with local businesses, develop program materials and create two public awareness campaigns to increase knowledge of the needs of early childhood education in the community.

Member Duties : This VISTA opportunity will work with Smart Beginnings NRV, Smart Beginnings NRV is a coalition of business, nonprofit and governmental leaders in the NRV working towards building the infrastructure for early childhood development. The VISTA will develop and implement the Reading Mentor program by partnering day cares with local businesses. Additionally, the VISTA member will create and manage two public awareness campaigns to increase community understanding of the needs of early childhood education.
