Community Organizing Summer VISTA

The VISTA Summer Associate will have the opportunity to work with our community building specialist in our Community Building and Organizing department. Working closely with our staff and residents in the community, the VISTA Summer Associate will help create and support systems that further strengthen the positive impact NHS has on our target population in the Greater New Haven area. Our VISTA Summer Associate will function as an integral part of our staff devoted to neighborhood revitalization and stabilization. As part of our efforts to stabilize and strengthen neighborhoods, we look at four prerequisites for creating a "neighborhood of choice": Physical Conditions, Image, Market and Neighborhood Management. The work will include helping improve neighborhood's physical conditions and image; attending and supporting community policing efforts; and expanding participation in community gardening in our targeted neighborhoods. The position will include door-to-door engagement and support of resident-led initiatives. The VISTA Summer Associate may collaborate with other summer associates on various smaller projects.
