LMM Education Coordinator

Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry (LMM) launched two social enterprises in 2012. The first enterprise is the Central Kitchen which prepares and serves over 1,400 meals a day to various homeless shelters throughout Cleveland. The second enterprise is a metal fabrication business, Metro Metal Works, that manufactures bike racks and other metal forms. Both endeavors provide marketable goods or services to the community as well as opportunities for skill training and employment experience of individuals in populations served by LMM. In addition to aiding in the startup of these existing enterprises, LMM will be partnering with 2 other organizations throughout Northern and Central Ohio. This project will investigate the feasibility of several other enterprises and develop/implement business plans as applicable throughout 2013 and 2014. VISTA members will conduct feasibility and market studies, create and implement business and marketing plans, track enterprise outcomes, and develop training curriculum. As an organization, LMM has five areas of service including programs working with people who are involved with the criminal justice system, youth who are at-risk, people with disabilities, individuals and families dealing with long term care needs and men who are homeless. To build economic opportunity and empowerment among those we serve LMM has made a commitment to developing social enterprises that provide skill training and employment experience to those we serve.

Member Duties : This individual will prepare, develop and write curriculums for training programs associated with the existing and emerging enterprises. The individual will assist in developing a curriculum in basic fabricating that can be used with the Metro Metal Works enterprise, as well as update and expand the existing culinary curriculum created in the first year of this VISTA project. Future enterprise ideas will require training guides supplemental resources, which will be compiled by this VISTA. These curriculums can include syllabi, PowerPoint and Prezi presentations, instructional videos, worksheets, training manuals, and handouts. The primary goal is for the materials created to be reusable so the course maybe taught over and over with minimal updating.
