Iowa Campus Compact- Mercy College of Health Sciences
 
 
 
The AmeriCorps VISTA member will work in collaboration with the Mercy College Service Learning Advisory Committee, MCHS faculty, and the Dean of Student Affairs to help organize and oversee the development of community partnerships and the implementation of Service Learning and college-wide community service that enhances current efforts to address health outreach and other services for vulnerable populations. He/she will identify community needs, foster community partnerships, maintain communication, and track service learning and community service experiences for Mercy College students, staff, and community partners. Additional duties include event oversight and participation (campus service projects, faculty workshops, new student orientation, etc.), providing educational presentations to students and staff, and working to develop student leadership that advances service goals to meet community needs. This position is located in Des Moines, IA.

Member Duties : Develop the capacity of local agencies to utilize Mercy College of Health Sciences as a means of meeting community needs. Establish a sustainable Federal Work Study position at a partnering agency that establishes an increase in academic achievement of youth served in mentoring, tutoring or afterschool programs. Assist Mercy College of Health Sciences staff in implementing sustainable service projects into courses, programs, and college-wide events. Develop the capacity of MCHS students in order for them to better understand applications of their health sciences education to community needs. Create sustainable processes that enable the continual growth of service to the community as a vital part of Mercy College of Health Sciences.
