ShareCorps-Freestore Foodbank, Volunteer Recruitment

Freestore Foodbank serves over 275 member agencies in 20 counties of Southwest Ohio, Southeast Indiana, and Northern Kentucky. We use food as the start of a conversation with neighbors in crisis about what else is going on in their lives so that we can either offer or refer them to needed services, providing hope for a future of self-sufficiency. A force of over 5700 volunteers support our efforts annually. They do so through distribution efforts that help us provide over 16.2 million meals a year, through providing general or specialized office assistance to support our programs, or by staffing special events to fund our endeavors. Human Resources & Volunteer Management oversees all aspects of the Volunteer Program, providing needed structure as we strive to reinvigorate a pool of over 400,000 volunteers in the Greater Cincinnati area toward fighting hunger.

Member Duties : The VISTA member serving as the Volunteer Recruitment and Training Coordinator will serve an important role in a refocusing of effort toward our volunteer program. Specifically, the member will build upon the work of his/her predecessor in this position by initiating, developing, and maintaining relationships with key community partners as part of a targeted recruitment effort to fill our volunteer needs and expand our outreach to potential volunteers. Further, the member will work with current volunteers and management to identify, create, and facilitate volunteer training so that we are providing professional development and core skills training in support of volunteers' work toward our mission. In support of the team effort to strengthen the volunteer program and increase retention, the member will work with staff to develop evaluation tools to monitor volunteer performance and satisfaction as well as help to develop recognition methods that are cost-effective and creative.
