ShareCorps- Mid-Ohio Foodbank Community Engagement VISTA
 
 
 
Mid-Ohio Foodbank is working to end hunger in central and eastern Ohio. We provide food to hundred of thousands of our hungry neighbors each year by partnering with more than 550 emergency feeding sites across 20 counties in central and eastern Ohio. Since 1980, the Foodbank has joined food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, senior centers, and after-school programs to make food accessible to those in our communities who are hungry. In 2012, the Foodbank distributed more than 46 million pounds of food and grocery products, enabling its partner charities to provide more than 102,000 meals every day. Mid-Ohio Foodbank is a member of Feeding America, the nation's largest domestic hunger-relief charity. For more information, visit www.midohiofoodbank.org.

Member Duties : The Community Engagement VISTA's goal will be to increase and enhance the methods through which community members can engage with Mid-Ohio Foodbank and hunger relief. The VISTA will focus on two main projects. The first will be to enhance the Foodbank's ability to provide excellent hunger education and service learning opportunities to a variety of audiences. A special focus will be creating service learning opportunities for students in grades K-12, especially given that children under the age of 13 cannot volunteer inside the warehouse. The VISTA will also work on aggregating and creating hunger education curriculum to be used both inside the Foodbank and throughout the community. The second major project for this position is a market research project, designed to get a clearer picture of poverty and hunger in our community, so that Mid-Ohio Foodbank and other poverty and hunger relief organizations can maximize their impact.
