ShareCorps- Habitat for Humanity Family Services Coordinator

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati partners with low-income families to build, renovate, or repair affordable housing in the tri-state region. Families must earn between 30% and 60% of the area's median income and meet three basic criteria to be accepted into the program: willingness to partner (work 250-500 hours of "sweat equity" with our program), ability to pay (will hold a 0% interest mortgage for the cost to build the home), and need (must be living in substandard housing). Additionally, we operate four ReStores -ReStores are retail outlets that sell donated used/new building materials thereby keeping usable materials out of landfills, providing low-cost materials to the public, and helping to fund the mission. As part of Habitat for Humanity International's Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative, we serve as a champion for stronger neighborhoods. This includes programs such as minor and major home repair, rehab of foreclosed properties, and weatherization of owner-occupied homes. We are dedicated to bringing Habitat for Humanity's Repair Corps Program to life through a joint initiative with The Home Depot. The main goal of Repair Corps is to remodel and renovate homes in our service area for U.S. military veterans and their families.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will assist the family services department by focusing on recruitment and client services for the Repair Corps program. This fledgling program is currently in place, but needs additional support to reach our goal of 20 U.S. military veterans/ families repairs performed in 2013 and to grow the program in subsequent years. The ideal VISTA member will network and conduct outreach events with veterans organizations, civic groups and other agencies that target veterans to find candidates for home repairs. These new connections will allow organizations that work with veterans or have veterans as members, to begin to refer eligible families in need of home repair. The VISTA member will also assist with processing applications, training volunteers for home visits and planning kick-off and dedication events as they arise.
