Land of Lincoln Legal Medical Legal Partnership - Alton

There is a close connection between poverty, mental illness and legal problems. When mentally ill individuals confront even minor legal problems, their life can begin to spiral out of control resulting in more serious behavioral health issues and other life problems, such as eviction and homelessness. The Medical-Legal Partnership will allow Land of Lincoln’s Western Regional Office in Alton to collaborate directly with local mental health providers and other public health care providers in the community to address legal problems when they arise, preventing legal problems from becoming overwhelming. The goal of the VISTA’s service will be to establish a Medical Legal Partnership (MLP) between Land of Lincoln’s Western Regional Office and the local public health providers, including public mental health agencies, to serve the legal needs of mentally ill and disabled individuals.
