Bright Futures USA VISTA Leader

We believe that when communities invest their time, talent and treasure in their schools, students are more likely to stay in school through graduation, have a higher degree of self-worth and confidence, and set and reach goals for the future. In turn these students grow up to be better neighbors, quality employees, and influential leaders in their communities. This model was successfully implemented in Joplin, MO. Our plan is to establish Bright Futures affiliates in 32 additional communities in the 2015-2016 service year. Many will not be able to hire a full time coordinator to make contacts, educate the school and community, coordinate the program, and develop the resources needed. Several Bright Futures communities will utilize a VISTA to help inspire community partnerships that uncover resources to provide for all children to learn, lead, and serve to their full potential. VISTAs will develop relationships and resources, identify, recruit and retain volunteers, coordinate programs, expand education opportunities, and assist in implementing service learning components. This will increase the capacity and increase long term sustainability.
