First 5 OC: MOMs Orange County

For 20 years, MOMS Orange County has been helping at-risk mothers and their families have healthy babies by providing access to prenatal care, health screenings, infant development screenings, health education and referral services through monthly home visits and group classes. Mothers receive one-on-one education and support during pregnancy to help increase their chance of delivering a healthy baby. After babies are born, the focus turns to promoting their healthy growth and development so they grow up happy, healthy and ready to learn. The health of the community has improved because MOMS Orange County mothers access prenatal care, babies are born healthy and reach their developmental milestones on time, and fathers are prepared for a positive role in the family. MOMS Orange County has demonstrated through rigorous outside evaluation that its program is not only sound, but is bringing children in a highly disadvantaged population to health and developmental levels that exceed those set by the general population. MOMS Orange County serves more than 3,800 low-income families annually and has been recognized by the Children & Families Commission of Orange County, the Orange County Heath Care Agency, the California Department of Health Services, and the United States Congress for its innovative work in the community and impact on the health of women and babies in Orange County. The 3 year Vista service project goals are to build capacity in the areas of Fund Development, Volunteer Development and Outreach to support the provision of prenatal and infant health programs to low-income families who are at risk for having babies with poor birth outcomes and delayed infant development. A Vista volunteer will help build capacity to serve more families by developing resources and increasing access to services. Specific activities include donor, volunteer and client engagement through special events, social media, traditional media and other outreach opportunities
