Iowa Energy Corps - Iowa City Bike Library
 
 
 
Energy Corps members will be placed with organizations and agencies in communities around Iowa providing service that will achieve the following project goals: 1) Hands On Energy Assistance: Energy Corps members will provide hands-on energy efficiency and alternative energy assistance to undeserved Iowa communities and groups. 2) Energy Education and Outreach: Energy Corps members will create energy awareness through education and outreach activities to those groups and communities most affected by energy and climate fluctuations. 3) Community Energy Planning and Organizing: Energy Corps members will work to form energy action networks and organize communities to develop sustainable strategic energy plans.

Member Duties : The Energy Corps member serving with the Iowa City Bike Library will contribute to the overall goal of helping to alleviate transportation issues for those in need as well as addressing the environmental impact of transportation networks that emphasize personal automobile use. Specific position responsibilities include: Oversee and assist in the organization of Traffic Skills 101 courses which educate community members on proper vehicular cycling strategies, create and present educational curriculum addressing transportation impacts on the environment, increase community awareness of bicycles as primary modes of transportation, organize and coordinate the repair, retail, storage and organizational aspects of the Iowa City Bike Library, serve as Volunteer and Programs Coordinator, serve as outreach coordinator in new volunteer recruitment and retention, and seek partnerships with local advocacy groups and businesses.
