EDC2014 - Fresno Housing Authority

The Housing Authorities have served as the affordable housing provider to the City of Fresno and 18 other Fresno County communities for over 60 years. Our goal is to provide low and moderate income families with safe, decent, and sanitary housing in an environment which would enable them to build self-confidence and pride. We help families move from "dependency" to "self-sufficiency." When families no longer require our assistance, we realize success. Today the Housing Authorities provide housing programs to over 14,000 families under a variety of programs including: conventional low-rent, section 8 existing, section 8 new construction, section 8 moderate rehabilitation, section 8 voucher, migrant, farm labor and emergency housing. The Housing Authority of the City of Fresno and the Housing Authority of Fresno County are each governed by seven-member Board of Commissioners. The City Board is appointed by the Mayor. Five of the seven commissioners are appointed to four-year, staggered terms. The other two members are appointed to two-year terms from among the residents of housing owned by the Housing Authority. The County Board of Commissioners is structured in the same manner, except that the County Commissioners are appointed by the Board of Supervisors. Mission Statement: The Housing Authorities of the City and County of Fresno are committed to building strong communities by providing quality housing and empowerment opportunities to eligible families in partnership with community resource providers.
